At the instigation  of the government, The Office of Fair Trading  invited the reputable agencies to form a trade association  to set minimum standards for introduction agencies to protect the publc. Practically all the best introduction agencies in the U.K.  without exception are members of this trade body - The  Association of British Introduction Agencies (ABIA).   All members are required to adhere  to a strict code of practice.  By being "ABIA Approved"  gives the public considerable  safeguards over other agencies, including,  that should   an ABIA agency go out of business, your service would  be transferred  to another ABIA introduction agency at no cost to you.  Other benefits include investigation any complaints you may have against an ABIA agency investigated free of charge. All member introduction agencies have  a duty  to explain their  prices before you attend an interview (this prevents you being pressured  into high membership fees). One of Britain's largest dating agencies (Avenues - a rehash of Sirius who had previously gone bust) has gone into liquidation, they were not accepted as ABIA members and as such their members were not protected.
